strolling, willing and able and get off...the only three on that platter that i really enjoyed..it did seem like a lot of 'filler" on that disc..i don't know what his impression was, but i thought that everything he did WAS fantastic. i can't think of one song on his first 10 offerings that i did not love, or at the least, like.he lost me at the batman soundtrack,tho...

...to incorporate New Jack Swing into his music- with varying levels of success. I listened to the Diamonds & Pearls album and with the exception of a few tracks, it was garbage. But that's just my opinion.

Astute question. Actually, I did like his stuff before Controversy. 1999 had input from The Revolution (Little Red Corvette's keyboard riff was created by Dr. Fink). Anyway, I think that you missed the first part of my post. It wasn't just that he got rid of the bandmates, he got the impression that everything he did was fantastic. And comparing early 90's Prince to his first few albums is like comparing apples and oranges. His first few albums were R&B/Rock inspired. Later he tried...

are u aware that he did his first 4 albums by himself?for you/prince/dirty mind/controversy/1999...wrote,produced, arrainged,played every instriment..so,i guess my question is, was he "listenable" to you before the bandmates?

Wendy..lol~ and how'd they get the 'water' to 'appear' in the piano...?? I agree, too, Prince's music was not the same when they left..I liked his music more when they were part of his band..:(

Prince did what most artists do that reach his level of fame- they start believing their own hype and forgetting the contributions of the friends / co-workers around them. To me, Prince was damn near unlistenable when he got rid of his BANDMATES and instead surrounded himself with people who were in constant awe of him.
