Not at all dim-witted. The use of texture throughout the piece, particularly in the staccato passages very much resembles Nintendo music, as does the free use of metric modulation and the way he orchestrates his ideas on the piano. Nothing wrong with saying what it reminds me of. The third movement of Ravel's Gaspard de la Nuit has a lot of textures that remind me of Nintendo music as well.
