One piece doors are still popular with low-rise buildings because they cheap. Elevators in most 2-3 floor buildings are only installed to comply with US laws. One-piece doors tend to break down less because they use less parts.

The font used in the floor indicator probably adopts that used in the Italian Sabiem elevator in the 1960s.
By the way, one piece landing doors as seen here have become obsolete in Hong Kong in the late 1960s.

What was that sound during the ascent? Otherwise, I really like the floor indicator.
