Turns out my chain length was ok. It seems that the a universal flapper is equipped with a ring as part of the mold which slides down the overflow tube as when you install it. This ring keeps tension on the arms of the flapper and doesn't allow them to pivot when flushed. The tension forces the flappper down unless you hold the flush handle down. I just simply cut each end of the ring where it attaches to the arms and it did the trick. Whats that annoying ring for anyhow? water saving maybe?

The chain is still too long. Keep tinkering.

Hi Tim. My flapper in our ensuite toilet was allowing a small constant trickle of water through. I rescently replaced it with another flapper. It wasn't identicle to the old one but it still fit like a glove. The leak stopped but now we have to hold the flush handle down for a few seconds or it will close immediately and not allow the flush to complete. I tinkered with the chain length from the arm to the flapper but no luck. Any suggestions?

That happened to me once. I was cleaning a gutter, and my hands were filthy. I went into the bathroom to wash up, and to my surprise, the town had shut off the water. Luckily, the toilet tank was full, and i washed up there. When i told people about this auxiliary supply of water, they said i was weird, and that it was nasty to stick my hands in the back of the toilet.

what? most people water is all coming from the same source, i have never heard of using gutter water for a toilet.

Hey saw the toilt flap fix you are so cool Im in miami and im hooked. Im doing tile in a condo and the manager is given me a prob on the 1/4 inch cork sound proofing. He says I should get more ya but it costs allot more to have it installed.

Try adding a cup of chlorine bleach and letting it soak for an hour. Then use a toilet brush on a spot you can scrub. It should work.

Before my question, I'd like to thank you guys for putting such useful content on You Tube. It's appreciated. The question: My toilet functionally works, but inside the reservoir tank, everything below water level is coated with a black film. The water in it is clear, but the tank full of a black residue. I posted a video of it, but youtube won't let me link to it in this text response. It's easy to find if you click my name. Can you suggest a chemical to clean this? Thanks!

I for one would like to thank you for enriching the world with this content. IT was first with writing that those that solve problems could first have there solutions recorded so that humanity could advance. By not having to continue to rediscover the same solution every time that problem came up.. you are creating solution that people can access at any time and from all around the world.
