lousindiaye is right. The drummer is AfricanAmerican: Omar Hakim, born in NYC.
Great drummer who also played with Weather Report/Joe Zawinul & Jaco & Wayne Shorter, Sting etc. He was in the 'house band' on this show, led by David Sandborn-sax player/host. They were playing w/Yousou's guys on the show.

The show was called 'Nightmusic' it was a GREAT TV show for hearing the BEST musicians... Live music. Incredible & ahead of it's time. Now we only get over-glorified garage rock bands, lip-sync and rap over CDs.
