I was on the phone with a friend to whom I had sent some stuff and said "I'll make you an fanatic in four minutes. Go listen, really listen, to Plainclothes Man." I pointed her to a particular live version. She called back awestruck, quoting the song and saying it was the best thing she ever heard. So I'd say the gritty stuff might be the way to turn people on. But everyone's different. The main thing is to have them realy listen--not in the car or as background, but real intent listening. |
