just because a band plays depressing music and follows the emo subculture doesnt make the music they play the genre, emo, or emotional hardcore. most emos dont even listen to real emo music anymore, they listen to stuff like indie and alternative. appearances and themes of music does constitute its genre. like my chemical romance and avenged sevenold
